Flat-on midday crop of two steel casements in a stone reveal, framed tight so the 42 mm face and the welded glazing bars fill the frame, the left-hand hopper propped open on its peg stay.

Steel windows
Hot-rolled steel windows slim enough to replace 1930s W20 casements and sit right in a period reveal.
- Sightline
- 42 mm
- Fixed light
- To 1500 x 2800 mm
- Lead time
- 7–8 wks
- 25 mm welded glazing bars
- Trickle vents built into the frame
- Galvanised, then powder coated
The whole steel windows square on and filling the frame, in the fixed light configuration, shot level in flat overcast light against a plain wall so the proportion and the frame-to-glass ratio can be read without perspective. Unit at 1500 x 2800 mm.

Close detail of the meeting line at eye level in raking light, tight enough that the joint and the seal are legible and the 42 mm frame, 52 mm mullion and transom, 25 mm welded glazing bar sightline can be measured off the frame, with the background thrown out of focus.
1:1
The hand-level detail: peg stays and casement fasteners in solid brass or bronze photographed in use on the hot-dip galvanised then 80 micron powder coat finish, close enough to show the surface texture and the fixing, with a hand on the handle for scale.

From inside the room looking out through the steel windows, the unit open where it opens, late afternoon light on the floor, so the product is seen the way it is lived with rather than the way it is sold.

The steel windows at dusk from outside, closed, the room lit behind the glass, so the finish and the glass line read against the light.

Steel windows
Description
Steel windows are made from hot-rolled sections, welded at the corners and dressed flat, so no joint shows. A 42 mm frame face holds a 24 to 32 mm sealed unit and reads close to the 1920s and 1930s profiles it usually replaces. The thermal break sits inside the section rather than behind a wider face, which is how the line is kept at 42 mm. Fixed lights run to 1500 x 2800 mm. Opening lights are side-hung, top-hung or hopper, and every opening light is made to PAS 24.
Specify it when
The right choice for replacing corroded W20 casements, for period elevations where a 70 mm aluminium or uPVC frame sits wrong in the reveal, and for any opening where the glass line matters more than the size of the hole.

More in external
Three-quarter exterior of a single black steel entrance door closed in a brick reveal, raking morning light across the face, camera low enough to read the 55 mm frame face, the welded glazing bars and the low threshold.

From inside a garden room on an overcast afternoon, camera low and looking out through a full-height steel screen as it wraps a 90 degree corner, the welded corner post central and the mullion rhythm running away to both edges.
